The cats who found us

Our Cats

Cathy cares for the cat-rescue side of the sanctuary. These are the stories of the cats who arrived needing safety, patience and a permanent place to belong.

Where the cat-rescue story began

Blondie

Blondie was the first stray cat to find a home with us. We had Blondie desexed and made sure this beautiful cat was safe, cared for and loved. That first act of kindness became the beginning of the cat-rescue side of our sanctuary.

A mother and daughter who found their forever home

Smokey and Gidget

Smokey arrived with her daughter Gidget after Blondie had shown us how much a stray cat’s life could change with patience and care. Smokey is FIV-positive and blossomed into a beautiful long-haired cat. Her daughter Gidget—the little ginger ninja—has a personality all her own. Mother and daughter found safety together and became much-loved members of our family.

The little fighter who made a full recovery

Envie

Envie was only six months old when she developed a rectal prolapse and had to be rushed to ARH Homebush for emergency veterinary care. She needed urgent treatment to repair the prolapse, and our supporters generously helped with her veterinary expenses through donations and the ‘Please help Envie with vet costs’ fundraiser. Envie recovered completely, has had no further issues and is now living the normal, healthy life this sweet little girl deserves.

The affectionate boy who chose us

Norman

Norman arrived in 2019—a gangly, very smoochy boy who surely must once have had an owner. Nobody came forward to claim him, so Norman became part of our family and found the permanent home he had been searching for.

From completely wild to completely devoted

Scruffy

Scruffy was a strange-looking little tabby who arrived as wild as wild could be, with a large cut above his eye. Cathy patiently treated his injury and earned his trust. Today, the once-frightened stray loves Cathy very much.

The family born in our laundry

Spooky and her kittens

After Cathy’s beloved dog had to be put to sleep, a little black cat who looked heavily pregnant appeared at our home. Spooky decided the outdoor laundry was the safest place to have her babies. She made her nest on an old doona suspended between the wall and washing machine. When one tiny kitten slipped through and fell below, Cathy heard its frantic meowing, found it and brought it back to safety. Spooky and all five kittens were then cared for as part of our cat family.
